How does psychology affect learning English?

  1. I think that outgoing, extroverted students take risks while learning English. This allows them increased input and opportunities for practice. Affective filter also plays a role in learning, the more comfortable students are the more risks they are willing to take.

  2. Yes! exactly, Personality plays a fundamental role in learning English and sometimes it is one reason why students behave the way they do.

  3. It is a good question. I think learning more than one language sometimes cause a few instances of confusion.

  4. Lots of psychological aspects can affect learning, such as shyness or stress. If students are too stressed, they do not retain much information, If a student is too shy, and fears making mistakes, he does not participate much, which can prevent him or her from learning.

  5. Good question! I've read that the more relaxed someone is, the easier it is for them to learn. I think personality is important, but if a teacher and the classmates create a supportive learning environment, even the shyest (shiest?!) student can come out of his/her shell!

  6. As I understand, if you are extrovert learner, you will find a lot of opportunities to practice your language with the native speakers because your personality accepts being in new environment. On the other hand, If you are introvert learner, you will be hesitated to talk and start conversations with people around you. This is because your personality prevent you from putting yourself in risk of practicing your language.
